Titanium, one of the more unusual choices available in wedding bands
today, is especially suited for people who suffer from allergies, as it
causes no skin irritation.

What is used to replace heart valves and bones, make
airplanes and space capsules, help Tiger Woods and many other
golfers play golf, and, most recently, to manufacture an entire
Apple computer? Do you give up? It’s titanium, a metal with many
uses because of its special properties. The most recent use of
titanium, however, is not related to the health field, devices or
tools, protection from the elements, or the betterment of a sports
game. It has become an extremely popular choice for wedding rings.
Titanium, one of the more unusual choices available in wedding bands
today, is especially suited for people who suffer from allergies, as
it causes no skin irritation. Listed on the periodic table, it is a
pure, natural element, lightweight, strong, and corrosion resistant.
It won’t scratch or get dinged like some other popular metals. In
its pure form, it won’t react to salt water, sweat, sunlight, or
everyday contact and wear and tear.
Given the active modern lifestyle of most people today, this
material fits their needs perfectly. Men are especially drawn to the
shiny, dark hue of a pure titanium wedding band. Its deep, smoky
gray tends toward an intriguing black. Titanium also has an atypical
property that enthralls many ring buyers: it can be re-colored
through a heating process in which it absorbs different amounts of
oxygen. The controlled oxidization process changes the color of the
ring from its pure dark smoky color to a deep blue or even purple.
The most popular color choice is titanium’s natural dark color.
Like wedding bands made of other materials, titanium rings can be
engraved. There is only one disadvantage to choosing titanium.
Because of its great strength, rings made of titanium cannot be
resized. Some titanium rings may be enlarged by stretching, but they
cannot be soldered to make them smaller. If you plan on purchasing
titanium rings, be aware of the sizing issue and ask whether your
jeweler offers an exchange policy. For today’s bride and groom,
titanium is an elegant, beautiful choice of metal for making wedding
rings.
